The paths to success, for all of us, differ. I fucking stopped writing proposals. Nobody can help you. Dig that. I wrote to everywhere for support to make my documentary. I'm angry now. I don't have an entitlement mentality, but please, if you have never helped me, never offer any criticism or advice to me. Fuck you and your opinion. It doesn't count.
I will go and borrow money and execute my ideas. There is no Power holding your destiny. You're in charge. Go out there and find the 'capital' you talk about all the time. I admire my boys, Mars Ezechukwu and Nwobodo Amechi Barzini David. They learnt quickly. Others are probably thinking Jesus is coming soon for them. Keep waiting.
Everyone has a dream. People you write proposals too, have dreams they
want to realise. Everyone is screwed like a bottle of tequila. Get that!
Now, see! I will never allow any man, born by a woman be in charge of my destiny. As a writer, they have said nobody can take you seriously as a self-published writer. Another bullshit. I have done the traditional book publishing venture and it is so, ironically, beautiful! All these are human constructs and once there are rules, people can break them. Break rules. Fuck what the world says. When you believe in social constructs, you are a slave. You're arrogating power to people.
Young people who believe in conventions are all slaves. They grovel at
the feet of people like us. I am not going to wait for anyone. I create
my world and dominate it. Fuck your opinion. It doesn't matter to me.
Get up. Grind. When they want to grind you down, stay calm and
retaliate. There is no one way to success and happiness.
Look at Ken Saro-Wiwa. When they thought his writing was bullshit, he started doing things for himself. Look at Flora Nwapa. Did you know that Heinemann Publishers stopped publishing her stuff? She started Tana Press. Oh, dear, on this Facebook and in real life, I have way established writers and agents and publishers. They are reading this and they know themselves. They are from Penguin and HarperCollins and all the heavenly publishers - I made a mistake and made them feel like they are the shit smelling. No, I don't give a fuck about them anymore. They feel they are huge and great because you want their opinion over your book.
